Cross Country Action

Courtesy of  Michael Veilleux:
Goffstown cross country teams continue their strong seasons. The boys team competed (Saturday 9/13) in Durham against 22 other teams and finished 2nd only being edged out by the host team and last years state champion, Oyster River. They were lead by a talented top five of Jackson Brannen, Cody Murphy, Matt Shaw, Jake Parr and Mason Foley. The boys were victorious as well last Tuesday at Merrimack Valley High School in a four team meet against the host team and Hanover and Lebanon. Goffstown swept the individual top three spots in that race and won this over team competition. The boys squad hopes to continue last years success when the GHS team made the teams first trip ever to Nashua for the Meet of Champions or better known as MOC's. The top 7 teams and D1 and, six teams in D2 and 5 teams in D3 all compete against each other to see who will continue on for the New England Championships.

(Jackson Brennan is seen below #214 sprinting towards the finish line where he finished with the 5th fastest time of the 318 boys who raced on Saturday.)

GHS girls squad had a great race on Saturday as well with all 7 of their varsity runners crossing the line in their fastest times of the season. They were lead by Junior Rebecca Zylak, who finished her 5k in 20:49 her best time ever. Liberty Gendron also put down a strong time of 21:12. (Liberty and Rebecca pictured below racing with each other a practice their coaches often focus on.) The Goffstown girls team also ran well on Tuesday at Merrimack Valley High School finishing second of four teams being beaten only by Hanover.
