Baseball's Winning Ways Continue

The #1 Grizzlies played and defeated #8 Lebanon in the quarter-finals of the NHIAA Division 2 State Tournament Saturday afternoon at St. A's.  Tanner Putnam got the win over Lebanon pitching a complete game three-hitter with 9 strike-outs.  

 Goffstown got on the board early with one run in the bottom of the first behind a double from Putnam, a fielders choice from Tim Riehl and nice sacrifice bunt from Pat Viviers.  Another nice bunt from Viviers, a hit from Tyler Perron and Goffstown scored two more runs in the third to go up 3-0.  That was all the offense Putnam needed as he was throwing strikes and getting outs very efficiently.  Three more runs by the home-town boys in the fifth and Goffstown had a 6-0 lead.  Lebanon scored two runs in the top of the sixth to make it respectable.  

 Goffstown (18-2) advances to the semi-finals to face Portsmouth (14-4), a rematch of last year's championship game, at Southern New Hampshire University, Wednesday June 11 at 7pm.
